CONTEST #3!!!

Birthday's Won - Updated
Kenric: 4
Rest of Memebrs: 0

This one takes a bit more searching, because it has more than one part. It's a tough one, but I'm sure somebody is up for the challenge.

Where is the Karla Crater, what is its diameter in km, and how old is it?

No hints on this one.

Central part
of the East European plain, Russia. 10km diameter. Five plus or minus one million years old.

Yeah, maybe if I didn't have a track meet I might have beat you Kenric.

...But on this website, http://www.meteoritearticles.com/colKarla.html

It says it is 12,000 km in diameter and I guess the meteorite that made it, happened 10 million years ago.

So Kenric and I have conflicting evidence.

Karla crater (54°54' N., 48°0' E.), in Russia, from the ground it is a roughly
oval hill that measures about 600 x 800 km. what ever. Are you guys online now or something?

Karla
Location: 54°54'N, 48°0'E
Diameter: 12.000 km
Age: 10.00 million years
The few websites I looked at agreed with Tom, only one had Kenric's data on it.....

Ok, Kenric is correct again. I have no idea where you came up with 12,000km Tom, that is gigantic.

Tom said...

How can Kenric be right? It happened 10 million years ago. Kenric said 1 million. The website I showed you shows all the facts.

Ben, look at the website I gave you, that is where I came up with that answer, whether it is huge or not.

Sarah, I don't understand what you are saying about the online thing.

here's the number for total area of the crater - 113,097,335 square km that is 70,275,426 square miles, the whole United states is only 3,536,342 sauare miles (State Farm Road Atlas) Russia is only 17,075,200 SQ KM (cf.heritage.org) or 10,629,852 SQ MI how can this crater be in Russia, but it would take about 6.858 Russias to fill the entire crater? Kenric has the only logical answer. Sarah and Tom, about the your sources, not to humliliate you, but wasn't there a kid who found a website that said there was dolphins or whales or something like that in the great lakes?

krustacianken said...

Tom, I made sure that I compared at least two different websites. I didn't say one million, I said five, plus or minus one million, meaning the the numbers could be one million years off in either direction.

krustacianken said...

Actually Adam, there is such a thing as fresh water dolphins, just not in the great lakes. Here is the "official" Lake Michigan Whale Watching website.

krustacianken said...

Sarah, I only see one website that has your data. I see like four or five with mine, including this one that is from the university of New Brunswick, so its probably legit.

Rachael said...

Guys, it's not that big of a deal. It's just a crater.

Tom said...

This is to a big deal. This is for a free birthday!

Tom, your last post is amazing, and tell Neil congratulations.

Hey guys, try an online encyclopedia...like...en.wikipedia.org

Kenric wins, that's all there is to it.

Tom said...

You guys are probably wondering why to congratulate Neil. Well, Neil and Amber are getting married, to be simple.

Sarah said...

Yeah, I looked on about 9 different sites and only one had Kenrics data. Oh, well....
Tom, when I first saw this post, there was no comments on it and then all the sudden there were two. So I wondered if you people were online then.
And what do fresh water dolphins have to do with anything?

krustacianken said...

Sarah, I don't know where you are looking but you are wrong. Rachael, you are just mad that you haven't won any free birthdays.
